Since the establishment of cooperation between Acer and Northeastern University in 2005, the University has established multi-level exchange alliances. The new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was completed in the presence of Mr. Zhan Fangguan, Vice Chairman of the National Development Commission, Mr. Tai Zhonghe, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Acer, and Mr. Lin Jiaxun, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Civic Foundation, covering the areas of faculty-student exchanges, dual-degree programs, the establishment of joint research laboratories, and the advancement of industry-academia co-innovation programs, and also including a special commitment to the promotion of the "Taiwan-Japan Joint Fund". The two universities are committed to building a "university-based cross-country co-innovation platform" centered on scientific development and the practical promotion of innovative industries, which will provide the key momentum for the continuous progress of Asia's current semiconductor advantage.

Teiji Tominaga, President of Northeastern University, and Kenjiro Kimura, Director of the Sendai City Economic Affairs Bureau, led a group of 15 VIPs including professors and government representatives. The delegation visited the Hakka Cultural Institute at the Rokka Campus, and then moved to the Guangfu Campus for in-depth exchanges on advanced semiconductor processes and quantum material technologies. The two universities' leadership in the semiconductor field is highly synergistic, and in-depth discussions were held on how to sustain Moore's Law in semiconductor technology, and how to maintain the continuous nurturing and supply of talents.

Teeji Tominaga, who is also a medical professional, led the delegation to the Pok Oi campus, which is dedicated to the cross-disciplinary innovation and development of biomedical engineering and intelligent electronics. The two sides had an in-depth exchange of views on how semiconductor, AI and ICT technologies can be applied to the medical and healthcare sectors and enable the university to create a significant and concrete social impact.

President Lin emphasized that the entrepreneurial and industrial spirit of the University will provide a strong impetus for Taiwan-Japan cooperation. He emphasized that our alumni have become the mainstay of entrepreneurship in the Science Park and have excelled in the global science and technology community, which is an indispensable niche for sustainable development in today's fast-moving world trend.

In order to promote academic exchanges between Taiwan and Japan, as well as cooperation in the semiconductor industry in the Kyushu region of Japan, the university also established the Taiwan-Japan Exchanges Office last month, with the assistance of Japanese professor Seiji Samukawa, to comprehensively promote cooperative relations between the two sides, including the establishment of collaborative research and educational exchanges with Japanese universities, the promotion of joint research programs between universities, and the sharing of research facilities to strengthen ties with Japanese industry.
