Yang Ming Jiao Tong University x Arm x TSMC FinFET Program = The Best Partner for IC Design Research at Top Universities in Japan

Tokyo Institute of Technology is the executive unit of U.S.-Japan University Partnership for Workforce Advancement and Research & Development in Semiconductors (UPWARDS), a national semiconductor cooperation program. In this talk, the Japanese government's strong support for Rapidus has crowded out IC design research funding, and due to limited funding, the Japanese academic community may drift away from mainstream Arm architecture IC design in the future.

Yang Ming Jiaotong University's consulting expert Zhang Zhiwei suggested in the seminar that the world recognizes semiconductors as the "new oil" of the 21st century, and that while Japan is committed to revitalizing semiconductor manufacturing, it must pay equal attention to the importance of "fabless IC design", and that if it still adopts the IDM mentality of the past, it will miss the opportunity of next-generation semiconductors.

After signing the MOU with Arm in 2023, Yang Ming Jiao Tong University will become the best platform partner for Arm-base IC design and TSMC FinFET Program for top universities in Japan.
