Introducing Taiwan's Semiconductor Leadership to Japan's NWS and VCs

President Lin Chi-hung of Ming Jiao Tong University has announced that he will promote changes in the university's financial structure and expects to establish a sustainable endowment fund in the future, which will be modeled after the Ivy League schools in the U.S. in that the endowment fund will not use the capital or equity, but rather will be operated through dividends or income from fruits. It is hoped that this "capital-retained endowment" will enable the university's endowment fund to reach a size of NT$50 billion by 2035.

"This is a Fund Building, not just Fund Raising, but a big project that needs to be built by the university and the alumni together with the spirit of thinking of the source of the water, and building together." Yang Ming Jiaotong University (YMJU) held the Outstanding Alumni Award Ceremony on February 28th, and thanked alumni from all walks of life for their support to YMJU at the dinner after the ceremony. President Lin Chi-hung made the above announcement during the meeting. In addition to expressing his gratitude to the alumni, he also hoped that the donations from all walks of life could be used as the basis for improving the financial quality of the university.

The endowment fund is a common mechanism established by universities in Europe and the United States. Take the endowment funds of Ivy League schools in the United States as an example, the size of most of them exceeds USD 30 billion, and the dividend or yield income accounts for one-fifth to one-third of the annual expenditures of the university. Yang Ming Jiaotong University has declared that its goal is not to achieve the same fund size as that of the United States, but to achieve the same financial structure as that of the world's top universities.
